Research with Human Subjects
Required Training for Investigators
Effective Date: January 15, 2008
Effective January 15, 2008, all investigators, students, and research staff conducting research with human subjects must complete training and education requirements every 3 years. Research will not be approved until the training requirements are met. Documentation of training must be provided to the IRB Office with all new applications or renewals.
NOTE: Other HSR training completed at other institutions within the last 3 years may meet this training requirement. Please contact the IRB Office at irb@illinois.edu for more information on additional modules that may be required.
Core required education and training include both sections shown in 1 & 2 below. Detailed instructions on registering for the training can be found on the Instructions For IRB Training Modules page.
1. The UIUC Human Subjects Training module on the UIUC IRB Website under Education at www.irb.illinois.edu.
2. CITI Training Module at the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) www.citiprogram.org. The 4 core modules include:
- The Belmont Report
- History and Ethical Principles
- Defining Research with Human Subjects
- Informed Consent
3. Additional CITI modules that are necessary may include the following if appropriate to the investigator's research. For example:
